Northborough Rotary

One of the most enjoyable aspects of Rotary membership is the
opportunity to visit other clubs. Whether for 'make up' or for the
sheer pleasure of checking out Rotarians elsewhere, sitting down with
fellow Rotarians on their own turf is just plain fun. There's always a
hearty welcome and what a great opportunity to get new ideas to bring
home -- and to share news about our award-winning club. Oh, and don't
forget Rotarians are a great source of information on things to do,
places to see, eat, photograph and much more. And, it's
comforting to know that in just about every town in America -- and in
many foreign countries -- there are people ready to help in case of
emergency.
The other thing that is enjoyable is to visit places of significance to
Rotary, its history and commitments. Be sure to let us know when you do
that, and send along photos.
Here's Northborough Rotarian Ron Goodenow (who travels a lot and often
stops by local clubs) visiting the Pembroke, Bermuda, club during his
May, 2006, visit to Bermuda. He was welcomed royally (at the Royal
Bermuda Yacht Club no less) by club president Charles Jeffers. He was
given a fine breakfast and commemorative pen, met Rotarians from
Bermuda and UK, learned about some new and exciting educational
programs undertaken by the Pembroke Club, and had the opportunity to
exchange flags and a joke or two. On return to Northborough he
presented the Pembroke flag to club president Pat Doyle and shared what
he learned.
Northborough club member Cynthia Maybeck jumped in her new Subaru and
with her significant other Elaine did a 9300 mile trip in the summer of
2006. They took an International Peace Hike from Whaterton National
Park in Canada to Glacier National Park in Montana, enjoying a link
built by US and Candian clubs back in the 1930s.
Traveling soon? The Rotary International website has a great Club
Locator. Click
here and you're on your way to getting the information you need to
visit a club. It's like eating popcorn. Once you start you can't stop!
Whether you visit locally or internationally, share your photos and
experiences and we'll post them here. |
