We had a highly motivated guest speaker Tuesday. A service man; a doctor; a battalion surgeon, one of today's quiet heroes, Lt. Michael Barreti, DO, MC, USN. With slides and words he showed us some of what he experinced in Iraq. Think "MASH"...pretty basic, right ? Now consider that the MASH depictions were the Ritz compared to the Battlion Aid Station Lt Barretti and his men served in for three months. The intensity of the scenes and tragic drama lay more unexpressed and
between the lines as he commented, for example, that the convoys were the most dangerous travel as he and his men are pictured treating casualties by the side of the road. He said that the Marines use the Navy Medical Corps and expect everyone
with the Marines to do what the Marines do so the training was for all. Probably a good thing. Lt. Baretti has two more years of "payback" to serve at some, as yet, un-assigned post. Sharing lunch with us was his wife, Aileen and his Dad.
