It is still December...so last week's newsletter was not the last for the year ! This news chat is it for 2006. Our luncheon meeting on Tuesday had a pretty decent number of diners...almost twenty and it typified the best of Rotary fellowship...a lot of chatter...some gentle teasing...expressions of caring for some of our members and families...and outreach of support behond our borders. Barbara King advised us that we now have enough donations to school, dress and feed six youngsters through the Haitian Apostolate for a year. Guesting was Doris Walsh's daughter, Diane Pinto.
President Mark Leahy had a brief report from the Board Meeting of the 19th much of which focused on the upcoming Pancake Breakfast. As the Chair Adam Winter was not present it was decided to wait until next time for his directives. We were reminded again about attendance.
A highlight of this meeting was a critique of the Broadway show, "Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee". As you may recall, Addison Redfield had the winning raffle ticket to the show from our own annual Spelling Bee in November. In essence Addison said, "early show...mostly youngsters and families, but not that many...forgettable music...couldn't picture it on Broadway, much less a Tony award winner...a third rate show". I think he had a good time.
Be prepared next week with your new year resolutions....it will be sharing time. You gotta be there, 'cause what's said on Jan. 2 gets forgotten on Jan. 2.
Thereafter on Jan 10 our speaker will be Kevin Sullivan telling us about the "Gift of Life".
The most immediate January 2007 birthdays are the 6th, Ed King and the 7th for Stephen Georgeson and Ron Goodenow.
Have a happy New Year and if you celebrate and party hearty there is an old Irish proverb that says, "A good laugh and a long sleep are the best cures in the doctor's book." Cheers.
