Dear Rotarians, here is your last newsletter of 2006.
Welcome, Will. We were glad to be part of seeing Will Oliveira being inducted as our
newest club member. Will and his wife, Jennifer, and two children have been in
Northboro about two years. Will is a financial planner with Smith Barney. Sharing the
event also was Dick Waterhouse from the Worcester Club and Thad Owoc, accompanying
Cheryl Ann and the guest speaker, Jean Peck.
Mrs. Peck, RN, MS, CDE is a Diabetes educator at the UMass Memorial Hospital
out patient Diabetes Center. The goal is to help people understand how to manage their
diabetes and improve their quality of life through education. Who’s at risk for Diabetes?
It would seem like almost everyone. 7.0% of the population...20.8 million children and
adults. Undiagnosed are 5.2 million people and those who are pre-diabetes equate to 54
million people. Diabetes is a silent disease. One can have it for years and not know it
so check with your health care provider. Good advise...good speaker.
Next Tuesday, December 26 we will meet as usual and it will be Club Assembly. Hope
you will be there to sing Happy Birthday to President Mark Leahy (Dec. 31) and
wish the Kings a Happy Anniversary. (Dec. 31).
January “speaker-getters” are Ed King and Pat Doyle.
President Mark Leahy read a letter of thanks from Sharon Brown of the Glavin Center
as well as a note from Michelle Gillespie with news of her son.
There was a brief discussion about attendence and a reminder about make-ups. Don’t
forget to get the card or mail it to Jean as there is a limited window for effectiveness...I
believe it is 15 days on either side of a make-up. (Open to correction)
Have you noticed that common threads between all the holidays are candles...so light
yours and think good thoughts... Remember, if you pursue happiness, in will elude you.
But if you focus on your family, the needs of others, your work, meeting new people and
doing the very best you can, happiness will find you.
