how about here! Our speaker for tomorrow will be Mark Niederpruem from the Shrine
hospitals talking about the can tab collection. Mark is a Rotarian.
The following person has been nominated for membership and will go forward hearing no
objections within seven days following this publication. William (Will) Oliveira.
Will, nominated by Mark Lessner, is a financial advisor and has been lunching with us over
the last month and half.
After lunch this Tuesday, 12/11, Adam Winter will meet with Pancake Breakfast people.
I hope you know who you are ! Adam is Chair and putting together the mix for the
pancake crew.
Merry making at Mottle’s this Saturday evening at 6:30. Have you signed up yet?
$10 covers a gourmet meal...a mystery so far...and great company.
While you are in a merrymaking mood and holiday spirit, please consider the gift of a year
of school, cloths and meals for only $125 for a Haitian youngster via the Haitian
Apostolate. Check...pun intended...with/to Barbara King.
If you wish to help Mohsen Mahmoud, of Lil M’s, in receiving citizenship...the number to
call to check on his status is: 1 508 831 7356. They are “very aware of the situation and
doing everything they can”.
Our guests were Will Oliveira, Renee Lebreux who came with Sister T...good to see you
Theresita. Also visiting was Elaine Fadden, assisting Cynthia Maybeck in recounting
their sabatical travels, all 9342 miles including the Plains of Iowa, So Dakota, the
California coast, Oregon lighthouses, the Canadian Rockies just to mention a few
highlights. The photographs enhanced the stories of their 45 days of hiking and exploring.
A touching inclusion was the teddy bear in many pictures that were sent to the children at
Trinity Church who in turn took care of their bear at the church. Cynthia and Elaine’s
conclusion from their travels is, “living in the present is an awesome gift.” Thanks for
sharing.
Wondering about our donation to the St Bernard Rotary club ? George Pember was and
received a letter, excerpts to follow, bringing us up to date. The check was received and
given to the parish school superintendent. Mrs. Abadie, former president of St. Bernard
Rotary said in her letter: “Please share the information with your members...”along with
my personal thanks and the thanks of the Rotary Club and the school system of St. B
Bernard.” Her letter continues, “St Bernard Parish (county) itself is having a vey slow
recovery....of the 67,000 citizens only about 12,000, if that many, have returned. It will
take many years for St Bernard to become the thriving commuity it was before Katrina.”
December 19 starts with a BOARD MEETING at 8 am at the Police Station. The guest
speaker at lunch that day will be Jean Peck talking about Diabetes prevention.
CLUB ASSEMBLY will be December 26th.
Ah, the pressures of the season...the parties...the presents ... the planning...the pressure !
It can turn a lump of coal into a flawless diamond, or an average person into a perfect
basket case. Baskets? Did you say baskets? Pancake breakfast...baskets...see what I
mean ? Don’t forget to meet with Adam Winter after lunch.. .
