Club meeting on November 21st was a bonus club assembly. Twas
relaxed and informative and we should do it more often just eat, chat, ask questions, eat,
share info., eat, laugh, eat and really enjoy the fellow/girl ship, as it were.
Visiting again was Will Oliveira and not visiting enough, was Jean Nadeau. Cheryl Owoc
brought Elizabeth Bentley Cumming to look us over. Twas a good day for guests to get a
sense of who we are and what we do.
The preliminary results of the Community Spelling BEE were almost $6000.gross in dollars and
100% successful in participation and fun. The Library team won.
The food expenses and raffle sales kinda canceled each other out...we do, however, need to
clone Cheryl Rosen as she, and she alone...sold $285 worth of raffle tickets for the
Putnam County Spelling Bee play currently playing in Boston. It was all gravy as Mark
Lessner knew somebody who knew somebody who donated two tickets to the play.
Who won them ? You should ask ! Addison Redfield. He was not in attendance at our
meeting and there appears to be some unfinished business to sort out. I can’t wait.
DECEMBER 5th - DEADLINE for getting your Glavin Center gifts to Doris Walsh. The party
at the Center is December 11.
December 16 is the Club Holiday Party at Fred and Holly Mottle’s home. The menu is being
cooked up by Pat Doyle and Addison Redfield who knows how to spell F O O D !
Hmmm...a lot of December dates to make note of...namely December 19 will be the
BOARD MEETING....December 19...at 8 AM at the Police Station.
CLUB ASSEMBLY will be December 26...that’s right...the day after Christmas. My, it is
good to be able to say C h r i s t m a s....appropriately ! Christmas can also be a holiday !
You do know that “holiday” is derived from “holy” day, eh”
See, having a bonus Club assembly made is possible for Pat Doyle to share information with us
about the Rotary Youth Protection Program presentation that she attended. Concern for the
youth with whom we are involved and ourselves was the motivation for defining conduct, safe
environments for Rotarians and their spouses and volunteers . Whether RYLA, Interact,
ESSEX or other programs with young people there will be a Youth Protection Officer for one
to go to if there is a concern.
Pat also took the opportunity to encourage (read plea) us to consider the areas where
RYLA needs (read “must have”) help. Treasurer Facilities Manager Registrar
That’s for starters. Think about it and see if you fit in.
Oh. Another December date...a close one...is going on as you read. At O’Brien’s
5 &10 in Northboro there is a “Santa for Seniors” tree. Take a coded ornament, purchase the
desired gift(s) and attach the ornament to the bagged gift and leave it at O”Brien’s.
Home Instead Senior Care is working with the Northboro District Nurses and Northboro
Council on Aging to identify seniors who might otherwise be forgotten during the holidays. The
tree comes down December 7...so get to it. The gifts will be distributed on December 16. It
doesn’t cost much to make a difference.
Here’s to holidays...did you know the definition of an optimist is one who starts a
new diet on Thanksgiving Day. Digest that.
