Our speaker was Fred Litchfield, Town engineer, who spoke on re-cycling as
encouraged by the town of Northboro with the focus on the environment.
The green bag trash collections go to Wheelabrator in Millbury. Contents need
to be burnable and do include alkaline batteries, also styrofoam.
In order to discourage disposal of mercury products there is a swap mercury
thermometers for digital, ie. Fred brought hand-outs that describe this Mercury
Recovery Program. For more information check out, www.keepmercuryfromrising.org
Fred also refered to the trash program calendar that is sent to Northboro residents
that includes contacts for disposal of large items such as computers, refrigerators
and the like. Marconi Trucking is one as is LeRoy Scrap Metal in Worcester.
The latter is free. In the meantime there is an on-going Solid Waste Study Group
so who knows what their trash talk will result in. (Had to do it )
This was a half day in school so we had the pleasure of John Gillespie’s company.
Also and always a pleasure to see “Sister T”...aka Theresita Donach who is now
blessing the Woonsocket Rotary Club. (that’s two).
