BOARD MEETING Tuesday, 11/14, at the Police Station at 8 AM
Then lunch at the West Side Grill, where, with the mashed potato and squash sides, we
will be part of an interactive forum - “Politics in Rotary” - featuring Addison Redfield,
Ed King and Ron Goodenow. Mashed sides and taking sides..on sides and off sides
Besides all that...there was the Foundation Forum..an ambitious event with a goodly
representation of our District Rotarians including our own Club. Bottom line the
message is that the Foundation, which we all support, makes wonderful, healing things
happen in mind and spirit, as well as body, in many lonely corners of the world because
of Rotary..
Last week we heard from Cheryl Rosen about herself and her career span from directing
city council meetings on cable - drawing promotional posters for the NE Rep.Theater -
Art School studying photography and video production - a degree from Clark Univ. -
producing music videos - ad agency artist - and today her own business as a graphic
artist. Whew ! You go, girl ! Cheryl has shared all these skills as a Rotarian for the last
ten years. She did the District Gov’s newsletter for a while and has done programs and
“knickknacks” for District conferences. Just mention a need for pads and pencils and
you got it, as we found out for the Spelling BEE.
What a segue/seque/ seh gway....can you believe that is a lead in to the Spelling BEE...oh,
the nerve! BEE that as it may...this Friday, Nov. 17th 6:30 at the Proctor School on
Jefferson Road in Northgate will be a fun, fund-raising, free great time. Rotary, and some
loyal, generous sponsors, are bringing community together for the community. We have
almost 20 teams, food, prizes, giggles. It is a costume event so feel free to costume
yourself as well. There will be a few extra wings and antennae available. As mentioned
there will be food, a raffle table, a Rotary display table. We are fortunate that the school
custodian will be setting up and taking down...but don’t feel that you won’t be
needed...you will be needed !
Hope you are doing your Glavin Center gift shopping. The date is December 11 and
Doris Walsh will be accepting our offerings from now on.
Would you believe that only 50 years ago these comments were made -
“I’m just afraid the Volkswagen car is going to open the door to a whole lot of foreign
business.”
“Thank goodness I won’t live to see the day when the Government takes half our income
in taxes...I sometimes wonder if we are electing the best people to congress.”
Just something to ponder...
