Guesting was Steve Sager, ADG, Westboro Club and Carol Borglund, also from the
Westboro Club reminding us about their citrus fruit fund raiser. Deadline is the 21st
if anyone is interested.
Addison introduced our guest speaker, Derrick Perkins who spoke about,
“Relationship Selling”...building relationships for business growth. Mr. Perkins has been
25 years in sales and marketing in the US and UK. The idea is that selling should
be an act of friendship to build customer loyalty. As he said, a satisfied customer may
tell ten to twenty persons and an unsatisfied customer will tell 3 times as many.
He noted four steps:
Target Identification. Profile the customer. Emphasize benefits. He recommended the
book “duct tape marketing”
Connecting and Understanding. Listen. Process Wait to see whole picture.
Solving the problem and confirming the deal. Key part of engaging the customer...
show that information is being received and turned back to them.
Customer Satisfaction and Follow-up. Something done the least well.“Up-serving” the A list. Increase services. Existing customers liable to repeat. And
remember, it costs more to get new customers than to work with old. Be the interested
one and understand the components of need.
