Northborough Rotary welcomed guest Bill McCorty (sorry if that is misspelled) who was checking out the club and guest speaker Nancy Snow, Chief of Staff of Gun Owners’ Action League or GOAL.
The goal of GOAL is to defend, without condition, the right to keep and bear arms. A slide produced during Nancy’s presentation showed how since 1986, gun licenses for carrying a concealed weapon in public have dramatically expanded across the country and GOAL is proud to support such a position.
GOAL functions not only as an information resource to the general public, but is also involved with lobbying various town officials and both our state and national representatives. Asked if GOAL supports any regulation or control of firearms, Ms. Snow’s response was that GOAL would like to see an easier process for citizens to obtain firearms.
GOAL helps to educate and train its members on safety and use of firearms and highlighted 6 reasons as to why people own guns: 1) Collecting 2) Recreation 3) Personal Protection 4) Competition 5) Hunting and 6) Constitutional Right.
The Second Amendment of The Constitution reads as a single sentence, “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” One wonders how many citizen gun owners belong to a well-regulated Militia. The issue also raises the question as to how self-proclaimed Constitutional “originalists” can claim that citizen gun owners need not be part of a well regulated Militia. Perhaps “Originalist” is synonymous with “Activist,” but I digress…
GOAL is located on 37 Pierce St, Northborough Ma 01532, 508-393-5333.
