On September 25, Northborough rotary welcomed as guests assistant District Governor Steve Sager and District Governor Greg Roche. Tuesday’s stop was Mr. Roche’s 45th on the list of 54 clubs and he arrived to deliver his message of goal setting and focus.
The focus for R.I. is separated into six categories.
1) Public Relations
2) Health & Hunger
3) Water Projects
4) Family Rotary- working with those in touch, but not members of Rotary such as RYLA students and ambassadorial scholars. Mr. Roche is asking all clubs to reach out to these folks, including members who have been absent recently or have stopped coming to meetings and try to further encourage people to join or come back to the rotary family.
5) Literacy
6) Youth
Mr. Roche was also please to announce that the Rotary Foundation’s annual goal for 2006 of $100 million was met and exceeded by 2.5%.
In other news, the annual district conference will be held on May 2, 3 and 4 of 2008. 54 tables will be on hand, one for every club and all clubs are encouraged to attend.
Awards were presented by our District Governor to Ed and Barbara King, who received the Benefactor’s Award for pledging $1000 from their estate via their will upon their passing. Skip Doyle, Mark Lessner and Reverend Maybeck all received the Paul Harris award.
In club business, Andy Dowd discussed the recycling program for button cell batteries. Rotary will be in charge of distributing and collecting the boxes at various business locations throughout the town. Rotary will receive $100 for every pound of batteries collected.
Club President Ron Goodenow reiterated his desire for serious discussion regarding Apple Fest and would like key Apple Fest members to outline what they liked and what could be improved for next year. Ken Golden informed the club that out of 106 vendors, only 9 didn’t show and that overall it was tremendously successful. The club came away with a net profit of approximately $4600.00.
