Northborough Rotary welcomed guest speaker Kathy Delahaunty, Marketing Coordinator for senior care company “Home Instead.” Ms. Delahaunty’s experience in dealing with seniors who need care was evident as she described the choices that must be faced. Imagining how we will be when we are older isn’t as difficult as imagining our efforts to resist giving up our independence when the time comes. It is the stubborn belief in one’s self to carry on independently that often leaves the adult children of those who need help to make the call to a company such as Home Instead.
Choosing the right caregiver to assist one’s aging relatives can be a difficult and confusing process. Home Instead confronts these issues head on and with a gentle touch as they help clients navigate a course of assistance that is best suited to the person(s) receiving care through a “service assessment.” After an assessment of needs is completed, a course of action is recommended. If Home Instead feels that their services cannot adequately deliver the assistance needed, alternatives are given in order that the decision makers can make an informed judgment as how to best proceed.
Home Instead employs their own staff of caregivers who receive training and supervision and must go through a series of background checks to ensure that the utmost in professionalism and safety is delivered to all clients.
No matter what level of care a potential client needs, whether it’s companionship, assistance in everyday chores or a high level of personal care, if given the choice, we all prefer to be home instead.
