BOARD MEETING TUESDAY, May 22, 8 AM at Police Station
At the last meeting George Pember presented a CD produced by the St. Bernard
Parish schools documenting their survival and recovery after the decimation of
Hurricane Katrina. There was little need for words as the pictures progressed.
And there was a definate need for words as Doris Votier praised all those who
came to their aid...even a group from Canada...but no FEMA.
From fifteen school sites and 8800 students to “no anything” and then after 3 1/2
weeks 18 classrooms in a parking lot and 300 students on the first day. And more
families are coming back led by the schools and the children. We did it “on our own”,
said Mrs. Votier and she is one being singled at the recent awards ceremony
given by the Kennedy Foundation. As you may remember our club, through the
St Bernard Parish Rotary and a 10 to 1 matching grant offered our support.
There was a fine turn out for the District Conference. No matter where you turned you
would see a Northboro Rotarian...Cherylann Owoc handling the myriad details of
registration...Brava. Cheryl Rosen, graphics and grab bags maven. The Kings, the
Doyles, President Mark Leahy and Ron, the photographer, just to name a few
seen on Saturday. And guess what ? We made it, thanks to Pat Doyle’s reminding.
BEST CLUB...yes ! BEST CLUB. Golden Gong is now ours again for a year.
Birthdays are still next week. the 27th Jeff Dale and 29th Alistair Wheeler.
Guest Speaker persons for June are Cheryl Rosen and Sister T. If you have any
questions or want to double check anything contact Cyndy Rondeau.
Something to think about: “Never, never, never believe any war will be smooth and easy,
or that anyone who embarks on the strange voyage can measure the tides and hurricanes
he will encounter. The statesman who yields to war fever must realize that once the signal
is given, he is no longer the master of policy but the slave of unforeseeable and
uncontrollable events.” Winston Churchill said it.
