Whew ! That last hill was difficult...kept sliding back down in the deluge !
Then there was the time it took between slipping on that banana peel and hitting
the ground...1 bananosecond...made the difference in the win...or wind, whatever.
BOARD MEETING is NEXT WEEK...April 24th at 8 am. Don’t say I didn’t tell you.
Guest Speaker this Tuesday, April 17 will be Kate Wilrich Nordahl, Director of Policy
and Research at Blue Cross / Blue Shield Foundation.
Jumping ahead a little...be warned...A sign up sheet will be circulated for an away
meeting on May 8th for lunch at the Worcester County Jail. No fake I.D.’s
GSE team is almost here...April 23rd. There are five members and they may still
need beds. Check with Pat Doyle.
District Conference is May 18 - 20. Early bird registration is up Thursday.
RYLA is weekend of June 22nd. There is a segment of time for each of us to fill
if able. From comments heard it sounds as if we helpers gain as much from the week-
end as the students. As President Mark Leahy says, It renews ones faith in the
the quality of our young people.
JUNE 29 is the date for Ron Goodenow’s INSTALLATION OF CLUB PRESIDENT.
Will be at Juniper Hills Golf Course a little birdie told me. That’s par for the course !
A little correction ! We had the April birthday. The ANNIVERSARIES belong to the
following. Addison and Ginny, 4/15; the Gillespies, 4/28 and the Wheelocks, 4/30.
The Membership Committee, chaired by Mark Lessner, set the goal of having all of us
involved on some committee next year. And he is looking for our Rotary info. tri-fold
to be in use at every event and perhaps interest local business people to seek us out.
George Pember shared a letter of invitation to the JFK Library on May 21st at which
time Doris Voitier, of St. Bernard Parish will be acknowledged as an outstanding
volunteer in on-going recovery efforts in New Orleans. Remember we donated to
St. Bernard Parish for a helping a school. There are ten invitations available.
A great time to have Craig Swinimer visiting to hear PDG Mike Razza laud the benefits
of The Foundation. He is the District Chair. First: Scratch that myth that all Foundation
monies go out of the country! Just consider the Ambassadorial Scholarship;
The Group Study Exchange; matching grants; simplified grants; as examples of how
Foundation monies benefit those in our country. And, as Mike asked, “Is it worth it”?
Via Polio Plus there is a 99% decrease of polio in the world! It is worth it !
For answers to your questions Skip Doyle is our club Foundation Chair.
A familiar guest and one familiar with the Foundation was Larry McCleod.
Here is a challenge...really, Cheryl Owoc’s. For your pledge per pound...Cheryl is
willing to lose pounds...and whatever is pledged will go to the Foundation. Ready,
Set, Go. Fish, yes ? 1 millionth of a fish = 1 microfiche.
453.6 graham crackers = 1 pound cake. And 2,000 pounds of Chinese soup
equals Won ton. Go Cheryl.
