Your lucky day...here’s a two-for-nothing.! Where have you been ? We have
had a couple of fine speakers...giving you a pulse of our town.
On March 18th, Kelly Burke, Director of the Senior Center, brought us
up-to-date on the plans for the new Center. First we were re-assured that the
lead issue in the soil is on a completely different parcel of land than the proposed
Center. A new plus in the design now incorporates a geo-thermal system.
Accompanying Kelly was Adrienne Cost, President of the Friends of the Sr. Center.
Our other guest was Norbert Savarad (sp ?) from the Webster/Dudley Club. He
has a trucking company in Northboro.
Our guest speaker on the 25th was Kathy Joubert, Town Planner, always welcome.
She gave us a comprehensive over-view of on-going and proposed growth in
Northboro covering Industrial/Commercial projects plus a list of those under review,
as well as residential, zoning bylaw rewrite project and proposed changes to commercial
districts. If you wern’t there you missed out on a good one ! Norbert didn’t. He was
back. And joining us for lunch was Will Oliveira. That was nice.
Also taking some time was Ralph Hammond encouraging us to take part in the
District Challenge based on the Pan Am races. (bicycle). He will be our speaker on
this Tuesday, April 1st, to give us more information.
As you may know it has been proposed to increase our dues by $40 a year. Our
by-laws require a club vote on this which will take place on April 15th at Club
Assembly. It was pointed out that our Club has the lowest dues of the Clubs in
our district...and perhaps the world...who knows.
You’ve gotten the word from Steve Georgeson about this Wednesday...Community
Dinner...our turn. There is something for everybody to do...more details regarding
arrival times, etc. dispensed on Tuesday lunch.
RYLA applicants will be interviewed this week and it soon will be time to consider
those applying for our college scholarships. We may be able to do seven thousand $.
Here’s a fun fact. In the mid-to-late 1500’s, New Year’s Day was officially changed from
April 1 to Jan 1. Those who continued to celebrate the old new year in April were
labeled as fools by the public, who started playing jokes and tricks on them. This, it has
been said, is the origin of April Fools’ Day.
Stay alert!
