This was a Club Assembly with many items of events coming up, ie: Community
Dinner on Wednesday, April 2nd. As previously mentioned, and for the newer
members...this is a weekly supper at 6 pm at Trinity Church, supported by many
town groups and Churches on a rotating basis. Originally designed to be a help
to those in need...it still is but also is a social gathering for those living alone and
any others. I think on an average about 40 to 50 people enjoy getting together
and eating well. In the past our Club has served chilli; ham; pork roast and
meatloaf a la Redfield. Expectations for those of us who are able are setting up
and setting the tables. Wrapping cutlery. Serving. Smiling and sharing. The cooks
usually arrive any time from 3 pm on to fix the meat, potatos, salad and rolls and
the rest of us bring, drop off, cookies, lots of cookies...baked or bought.
People eat, chat and scram...it is any early evening...BUT we do clean up after.
We will be hearing more from Pat Doyle and Michelle Wheelock.
April mid...housing is needed for the GSE team from Turkey. This means housing
for five for 4 days and 3 nights. GSE, Group Study Exchange is for young professionals
sponsored by Rotary to learn about how their work is done in other
countries. The team usually visits with our Club and shares their experiences as do those
who visited Turkey from our District.
April 26 is the Town Clean-up sponsored by the Womans Club. The day starts at the
Middle School at 8 am for assignments. You get fed at the end of the job. We are
advised that if we wish to make an effort as a Club we can do it another day...but I
don’t think they feed us. It’s just the joy in a job well done ! Hey! We’re Rotarians.
BOARD MEETING INFO: DUES are going up...isn’t everything ?! But first, according
to the by-law 6, section 3, a club vote is required. This will be put forth at our next Club
Assembly. The recommendation is an increase of $40 a year. Now make a note...
NEXT CLUB ASSEMBLY is April 15th.
Doris, Nancy and Andy will soon be inteviewing highschool sophmores who have been
recommended for RYLA, Rotary Youth Leadership Award, week-end in mid-June.
Also the deadline is near for college scholarship applications. When we are informed
about the success of the Pancake Breakfast we will know how many we can award.
District Conference, May 2-4 in Boxborough. Pat & Skip have registration forms and
if you choose you can register on line. Our Club has a hospitality room with food.
Guesting again were Ephraime Nachum and Kris Brunstetter. Kris not for long, however,
as she was inducted as our newest member. As with many of us, she comes from a
varied professional background to now. She is a licensed plumber. Welcome, Kris.
Top ‘o the marning to ye...think green but don’t trip on any of the
wee folk.
