PANCAKES! This evening, Friday, ( I hope it's still Friday ), March 9th, we are setting up at Lincoln Street School with baskets and placemats and griddles so that on Sunday we just have to appear, put on those aprons and feed the hungry. Pancake mixers and griddle warmer-uppers and coffee makers should probably be on scene 7/7:30 AM. The rest of us from then on. If some of you come later that is okay because the clean-up is just as important as the serving. REMEMBER TO SET YOUR CLOCKS ONE HOUR AHEAD the night before. You will see a lot of folks you know, but as Adam reminded us, "Don't let the socializing get in the way of the on-going cleaning of tables." But if you want to sing to Adam Winter, go ahead...it's his birthday. If you have completed baskets bring them Friday night. If you want to take a guess as to the number of baskets you can email your guess to, how about you, Doris ? dwalsh7187@charter.net Before you get there Friday, of course.
Guesting at our meeting was Greg Roche, DG elect, reminding us about the incredible value of our donations to the Foundation and thereby our District with simplified grants and ambassadorial scholarships as well as, of course, the World Fund.
A momentary guest was Jim Brady...inducted back into the fold by Greg, just in time for those pancakes. Glad you are back, Jim.
Our guest speaker was June David-Fors, new Director of Family & Youth Services, since November. June was a former member, past president of the Shrewsbury club and, as a founder of the Glavin Center program, she was pleased that we are still involved. F&YS, started in l976, used to have a staff of five, but now has two with an admin. assistant to be added. Identified priorities are outreach services and working with the Police, the schools, churches and food pantry to identify those in need. June said one goal is to re-establish the CAP, Community Action Programs, in the high school where student volunteers get credit for their involvement. She stressed that, "...the more groups work together and collaborate..." the more effective all the efforts.
