A tisket, a tasket...we gotta do those baskets. THIS SATURDAY,March 3rd at 10 am at the Doyle's Photography Barn. Bring your stuff and whatever else you have...you never know what magic Sister T can do with "stuff". Gift certificates. There are a lot of new businesses in town that might appreciate the recognition...I am thinking just Maney Plaza...the Memories bakery...the sport place...Rocky's, not so new but it's there. Hey! A raffle basket of just gift certificates...whoa...start at one end of town to the other...Get going ! Take some posters with you. See you Saturday...there will be coffee/and. And don't forget to get after your placemat ad people. We are only 1/2 way to our goal of $10,000...that's scholarship money for students ! The deadline for the ads is next Tuesday, March 6th. We set up the cafeteria at Lincoln Stret School on Friday evening, the 9th, starting at 6 pm.
Next up in March is our turn in the kitchen for the COMMUNITY DINNER on the 21st.
Also in March go visit another club and report back.
APRIL will be the Antique Appraisal on the 10th.
District Assembly on the 14th in the AM
Arrival of GSE team on the 23rd. Can you host one of the team
for 3/4 nights ? Tell Pat Doyle.
Our guest speaker, Nancy Stassi from Home Stafff, gave us a lot of valuable information about what is "out there" for care for elders, support and information for their care givers. She debunked a few myths ie: One should not question the doctor. Medicare will cover everything. Savings and pensions are enough.
NOT a myth is if you are thinking ahead, think about Long Term Care Insurance.
She indicated that there are 5 times more home care opportunities than in the past including various certified agencies and licensed agencies as well as individual
"finders". The latter are mostly on the Cape and are un-regulated and generally not safe.
Do consider Elder Law Attorneys for wills, health care proxies. DO consider Geriatric Case Managers National Registry...check on line. They serve as a kind of mentor as you consider options for a family member. You got the email from Bruce Bender,
Home Instead, about a regulatory bill that Harriet Chandler has filed for oversite of care givers and employers of care givers. There's no place like home.
SPEAKERS for MARCH include June David-Fors, Director of Family & Youth Services, who will speak this next Tuesday, March 6th.
March 13th is Kent Griffiths, Mass Financial Services. and
March 27th will be a Friend of the Senior Center. Good Work, Mark Lessner.
Put some candles on some pancakes on the 11th. It is Adam Winter's birthday.
Later in the month, on the 24th, we can sing to Pat Doyle.
It was good to have Michelle Gillespie back with us and to hear about John who is back in school and thrilled to be there..
Ken Golden advises that forms for space for the Applefest Street Fair in September are posted on the town web site. Tell you what it is on Tuesday.
Came across the following quote from Winston Churchill. Don't know why I chose
it...it just struck me. "There is nothing more exhilarating than to be shot at
without result".
